Snapchat Adds Perplexity Power
Snap is teaming up with Perplexity AI in a $400M multi-year deal to bring real-time conversational search to Snapchat. The feature, rolling out first in the My AI chatbot, will integrate Perplexity’s AI engine to let users ask complex questions and get dynamic, conversational responses—essentially transforming the way Gen Z searches for information inside the app. The partnership gives Snap access to Perplexity’s real-time indexing and retrieval capabilities, while Perplexity gains distribution to Snapchat’s 800 million monthly users.
According to Snap’s announcement, this move expands Snapchat’s AI ambitions beyond chat. Snap’s SVP of Product Jacob Andreou called the Perplexity integration “a new frontier in search that feels more natural and useful.” Meanwhile, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas sees the partnership as a way to “redefine how young people find and consume information.” Instead of sending users to a list of links like Google, Perplexity’s model delivers direct answers with sources and follow-up capabilities.
This collaboration is another sign that consumer platforms are betting on AI-native interfaces over traditional web search. The scale of the deal also signals confidence in Perplexity’s model as a real contender in the AI search race. As users increasingly expect information to come conversationally, companies that integrate context-aware assistants will have a major edge. The long-term implication? Whoever owns the “default interface” for asking questions may own the next generation of attention, commerce, and even learning.
