Adobe’s AI Assistant Wants to Help You Create Faster
Adobe is doubling down on AI across its creative suite, unveiling a wave of generative features at its annual MAX 2025 conference. The centerpiece is Firefly, now supporting custom models that let individuals train AI on their own characters or visual tones using as few as six images. These models are still rooted in Adobe’s proprietary, commercially safe Firefly foundation. The new Image Model 5 enables layered image editing—users can move and replace individual objects, like shifting chopsticks in a ramen photo, with no visual distortion.
Two new generative tools, Generate Soundtrack and Generate Speech, let creators build audio directly inside Firefly. Soundtrack generation analyzes a video and proposes fitting music prompts, while the text-to-speech feature—built with Adobe and ElevenLabs models—supports 15 languages and includes emotion tagging for nuanced vocal delivery. Adobe also introduced a browser-based Firefly video editor and revealed that Photoshop and Express will gain AI assistants that help navigate tools and complete tasks, reflecting the growing trend of “agentic AI.”
Looking ahead, Adobe teased Project Moonlight and a ChatGPT integration developed with OpenAI and Microsoft. This partnership could let creators generate Adobe assets directly inside ChatGPT while preserving context across apps and social channels. As design and AI converge, Adobe seems intent on turning creativity into a real-time, conversational process—reminding us that future creative work may rely as much on prompting as on painting.
