🚨 Breaking AI News
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) opened an investigation into OpenAI to discover whether the company has violated consumer protection laws.
The FTC sent OpenAI an extensive 20-page demand letter for records on how it handles risks from its AI models. This is serious stuff, and it is the most significant regulatory threat to the company so far.
The FTC is also looking into a security bug that exposed some user data and whether OpenAI engaged in unfair practices that caused consumer harm.
If Open AI is found to have broken laws, the FTC could impose fines or implement requirements on how the company handles data.
Is Open AI guilty?
Meta is preparing to release a commercial version of its AI model in an attempt to catch up to Open AI, Google, and Anthropic in the AI race.
The new open-source AI system will allow startups and businesses to build custom software on top of Meta's LLM. Meta's previous model, LLaMA, was available to researchers earlier this year; this new version will be more customizable for companies looking to implement AI.
Meta's chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun believes the AI sector will drastically change as open-source models become as capable as closed-source models.
