Sam Altman just launched Worldcoin (WLD), a cryptocurrency designed to create a financial network that includes everyone around the world, a new world currency.
Core innovation is World ID, a privacy-preserving digital identity system using custom biometric devices called Orbs for "proof of personhood."
World ID verifies individuals as unique humans without compromising privacy
Aims to enable fair distribution of resources, prevent sybil attacks, and provide protection against AI and bots
Still in early stages but aims to advance decentralized identity and finance to increase equality
The goal for WLD is to become most widely distributed digital asset ever
In a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, leading AI researchers such as Yoshua Bengio and Stuart Russell testified about both the promise and dangers of AI technology.
They warn that risks like disinformation campaigns, autonomous weapons, and a lack of transparency create an urgent need for smart governance.
But then they cautioned against rushing into overregulation, emphasizing that AI is still in its early stages and there are still gaps in our understanding of the technology.
The researchers proposed measured oversight such as supply chain auditing, safety testing requirements, restricted access to powerful models, and mandatory disclosures around AI usage.

That's the idea behind ASI. This kind of AI system could potentially solve complex global problems, from climate change to disease eradication.
However, while the idea of ASI is intriguing, it's important to note that it remains a theoretical construct. As of today, we only have examples of Narrow AI or Weak AI, systems that excel in specific tasks but do not possess overall human intelligence.
