Big Takeaway: History was made last night, Elon Musk's Neuralink showcased a quadriplegic patient, Noland Arbaugh, using a brain implant to control a chess game on the computer. (Video here)
Arbaug was paralyzed from a diving accident 8 years ago but successfully played chess and managed computer functions through brain waves with the Neuralink device.
After he was implanted in January, Arbaugh described the training process with the device as “intuitive,” comparing it to "using The Force" from "Star Wars" for cursor movement.
Despite concerns raised by an FDA inspection over Neuralink's record keeping and quality controls in animal experiments, Arbaug looked genuinely thankful for the implant allowing him to use a computer again.
Do you think this is a good or bad thing for humanity? And why?

Big Takeaway: Google will pay 250 million euros in penalties to France for failing to inform and compensate French news publishers for search results and AI model training.
The French Autorité de la Concurrence (ADLC) found Google failed to notify publishers before training its AI chatbot, Gemini, with their content and introduced opt-out options too late for fair negotiations.
Google breached four out of seven commitments made in 2022, which were designed to ensure balanced negotiations with publishers for five years.
Until September 2023, the only opt-out for publishers not wanting their content used for AI training was to block all content indexing by Google, affecting their presence on Search, Discover, and Google News.
Google called the penalties "not proportionate," blaming the fluctuating regulatory climate and calling for clear principles on fair use of content in AI development.
