Big Takeaway: Microsoft announces a partnership with French AI startup Mistral AI, valued at over $2 billion, to expand in the AI industry.
Mistral also announced 2 new AI models: Mistral Large, designed to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4, and a new conversational chatbot, codenamed Le Chat, to compete with ChatGPT.
The partnership will make Mistral’s LLMs available on Microsoft's Azure, making Mistral the second company after OpenAI to host its LLM on Azure.
Microsoft aims to gain new commercial opportunities for Mistral AI and expand its reach to global markets, with a focus on developing and deploying next-generation LLMs.

Big Takeaway: Google’s AI venture DeepMind introduced Genie, a generative AI model trained on 200,000 hours of gameplay videos with the capability of creating playable games from simple prompts. (Demo here)
Genie was developed with the University of British Columbia, and can generate 2D platformer games like Super Mario Brothers and Contra from a single image prompt.
DeepMind emphasizes the rise of generative AI capable of creating novel content in language, images, and videos, and introduces Genie as a “new paradigm in generative interactive environments.”
Currently, Genie is a research-only tool and not available for public use, and it is currently capable of creating games running at 1 frame per second (FPS).
