TECH

Easel is a new startup that sits at the intersection of the generative AI and social trends, founded by two former employees at Snap. The company has been working on an app that lets you create images of yourself and your friends doing cool things directly from your favorite iMessage conversations.

In recent days, a chorus of Facebook and Instagram users have noticed a new AI-powered feature is being prominently integrated into the main search window of Meta-owned apps. “Meta AI,” which runs on the company’s supercharged Llama 3 large language model (LLM), is essentially a digital assistant that lets you enter your search queries and interact with a natural language interface.

This is how Gemini works on desktop. When you ask the chatbot a question, Gemini answers as it's "typing" out the question. But currently, Android users have to wait for the fully processed response to publish. The response only takes a few seconds, but a faster perceived experience on mobile can be achieved by showing the response progressively, particularly for lengthy text.

PROGRAMMING AND DESIGN

Programmers love to argue for their favorite technologies, but there are some ideas that are universally agreed on. This article provides a list of ideas within computer science that are universally considered good and the year each idea appeared. These ideas are so widespread and effective that many may not even think of them as being invented. The list focuses on ideas, not implementations, so some things like Unix aren't on the list. Some example items from the list include binary numbers, boolean algebra, arrays, and version control.

csvbase uses a client library with no API. It can pull dataframes using any dataframe library that uses the fsspec standard file system interface library. fsspec, which is well used but not well known, comes with built-in adaptors for object stores, webdav, GitHub, Dropbox, and more. This post explains how to use fsspec in your own programs.
