World Labs, the AI startup founded by Fei-Fei Li, has launched Marble — its first commercial generative world model — that turns text, images, or videos into editable 3D environments. After a year in stealth and $230M in funding, this puts World Labs ahead of peers like Google’s Genie and Odyssey. Unlike those systems, Marble creates persistent, downloadable 3D worlds that can be exported as meshes, Gaussian splats, or videos, giving users far more creative control. As co-founder Justin Johnson explains, “There should always be a quick pathway to generate something, but you should be able to dive even deeper and get a lot of control over what you’re generating.”

The product introduces Chisel, a hybrid 3D editor where users sketch spatial layouts before the AI fills in details — decoupling structure from style. This “HTML/CSS” approach to 3D generation lets users move or expand objects, merge multiple worlds, and even build digital twins of real spaces. Subscription tiers range from a free plan to a $95/month pro plan with full commercial rights. Johnson says early use cases will center on gaming, VFX, and VR, where teams can quickly build rich, controllable worlds without needing full pipelines.

Fei-Fei Li sees Marble as the first step toward “spatially intelligent” AI — systems that understand the physical world like humans do. If language models taught machines to read and write, Li believes world models could teach them to see and build. The same capability that helps artists craft worlds could someday help robots, scientists, or doctors simulate real ones — a reminder that creativity and intelligence might share the same spatial roots.
