The startup has developed a virtual assistant that learns whatever digital errands you teach it. The interface is a handheld device you use to issue voice commands to your pocket assistant.

The goal of r1 is to keep your phone in your pocket if you’re trying to accomplish a task like, “Give me a list of five cheap restaurants within a 10-minute walk of there.”

Its small size at 3"x3" and light weight of 115g make it portable alongside a phone. r1 knows how to use many common apps, like Uber, Expedia, and more, and can learn new ones by watching users interact with them.
