Big Takeaway: November 30 marks one year since launch of the first generative AI ChatGPT, which quickly became the fastest-growing app ever, hitting 100 million users in just 2 months.
In March, OpenAI released the GPT-4 model, powering ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise. And by October 2023, ChatGPT is equipped with image creation, web browsing, data analysis, custom GPTs, and 100s of plugins.
ChatGPT set off an ongoing AI gold rush across the tech industry and beyond, with companies racing to build their own generative AI. With companies like Nvidia up over 200% year-to-date.
Sam has promised more years of OpenAI with a focus on safety. Despite the OpenAI coup we witnessed last week, it is looking positive for ChatGPT’s future.

Sam and the boards key priorities going forward are: Advancing AI safety research, Deploying products, and Improving governance so stakeholders can trust OpenAI's stability.
New board chair Bret Taylor outlined plans for a qualified, diverse board representing OpenAI's mission, an independent review of recent events, and enhanced governance so customers, partners, and more are confident in OpenAI.
Microsoft is also joining the board at OpenAI but as a “non-voting observer.”
