Hi AI Futurists,

OpenAI has decided the humble ad click leaves too much conversation on the table. Its new Sponsored Agents invite you into a branded chat inside ChatGPT, where the product pitch can answer back and, one assumes, never needs lunch.

Let's take a look.

Product teams aren’t short on ideas. They’re missing a system.

Jira Product Discovery gives teams one place to capture customer feedback, prioritize ideas with consistent frameworks, and build living roadmaps everyone can align on. And when it’s time to build, those decisions connect directly to delivery in Jira, so everyone can see how the roadmap turns into real work.

ChatGPT's next ad is a sales conversation

OpenAI has found a new place for the sales rep: inside the ad. Sponsored Agents let someone click a ChatGPT ad, enter a clearly labeled conversation with the business, ask the awkward follow-up questions, and leave for the advertiser's website when ready. The sponsored chat stays separate from ChatGPT's answer and from the conversation that brought the user there. For now, this is a US pilot with select advertisers. OpenAI has shared no pricing, conversion results, or participant count, which are three fairly useful details in an advertising launch. Still, the business is moving quickly. OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in August. Amazon opened its demand-side platform to ChatGPT campaigns on September 10, and new HubSpot and Shopify integrations now pull campaign work into the systems where companies already track leads and products.

A conversational ad sounds simple until the brand's agent starts inventing a return policy. These agents need current prices, inventory, product details, approved claims, and a clean path to a human when the conversation gets strange. OpenAI's Ads Manager can build and analyze campaigns from plain-language prompts, suggest copy and images from a landing page, adjust text to the surrounding chat, and translate it for the user. The creative work gets easier. The information problem does not.

Running a Sponsored Agent will feel closer to operating a small customer-facing product than buying another media placement. Someone has to own its answers, decide what data it may use, write the handoff rules, and measure what happens after the first question. Marketers should start with the ten questions customers ask before they buy. Product teams should decide where the agent stops. Founders should check whether their catalog and help center agree with each other on a normal Tuesday. Investors can wait for the evidence OpenAI has not published yet: conversion rates, repeat spending, and whether brands expand after the pilot. Google turned intent into an auction. Meta put the storefront in the feed. OpenAI wants the ad itself to conduct the sales conversation. The landing page used to wait patiently. This ad keeps talking, and the brand is responsible for every word.

Takeaways at a Glance:

  • Sponsored Agents open a clearly labeled brand conversation after a user clicks a ChatGPT ad.

  • OpenAI is testing the format with select US advertisers and has not published conversion results.

  • HubSpot is the first CRM partner, while Shopify is the first ecommerce partner.

  • OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in August.

  • Amazon opened ChatGPT Ads inventory to US advertisers through Amazon DSP on September 10.

What We Think About It:

  • OpenAI is betting that the intent inside a chat is worth more than the keyword that started it. I buy that premise. A person asking whether a table fits six people is closer to a purchase than someone searching "dining table."

  • I do not buy that most brands are ready. Plenty still cannot keep price, inventory, and policy language consistent across their own website. Giving that mess a conversational interface will make it friendlier, not more accurate.

What You Can Do Right Now:

  • Write down the ten questions customers ask before they buy. If your website gives three different answers, fix that first.

  • Pick one product with clean pricing and few options. Draft the conversation, including the moment the agent admits it needs a person.

  • Put marketing and support in the same room for the answer review. Legal can join when everyone is feeling optimistic.

  • Wait for conversion and repeat-spend data before moving a serious budget. The demo has already done its job.

Get more done with these AI tools

Jottoo: meeting notes that become tracked tasks

  • Record a meeting, upload audio, or type notes without adding a bot to the call.

  • Pull out decisions and follow-ups instead of leaving you with another transcript.

  • Manage deadlines and past-meeting questions from one workspace.

Most meeting tools return a transcript, which is a longer version of the meeting you already survived. Jottoo tries to return the work.

Pollen Create: turn existing material into interactive training

  • Start with a prompt, deck, PDF, or rough notes.

  • Generate a session with structure, timing, and interactive activities.

  • Refine the draft for onboarding, workshops, customer education, or sales training.

Useful for anyone with a decent deck and no desire to spend the afternoon manufacturing audience participation.

Thread: an AI journal that reconnects scattered ideas

  • Capture text or voice notes in seconds.

  • Link related memories and surface patterns across entries.

  • Turn loose thoughts into useful threads you can revisit.

For founders and knowledge workers whose best idea is currently hiding in a note titled "New note."
