Hi AI Futurists,
Things are starting to get pretty crazy. I honestly didn’t expect we would have tech like this in 2025. We are a few years away from the singularity, with robots doing an immense amount of economic work. Today is the preview of how that happens.
OpenAI has released a general-purpose AI agent within ChatGPT that can autonomously browse websites, click buttons, fill forms, and handle web-based tasks on behalf of users. It marks a big shift from static prompting to actionable AI. Let’s take a look.
Here’s our agenda.

ChatGPT just learned to click
OpenAI just took another step toward autonomous AI with the release of a new general-purpose agent inside ChatGPT, aimed at helping users accomplish tasks across their digital lives. It can now interact with websites and apps on your behalf—think clicking, searching, filling out forms—essentially functioning as a digital assistant with real initiative. This feature, still in alpha and available only to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users, starts with basic tasks like booking flights and extracting info from the web, but OpenAI intends to expand its capabilities to broader workflows and productivity routines. The launch is a clear attempt to stay ahead of competitors like Anthropic and Google, who are also working on tool-using AI agents.
The agent builds on the existing "Actions" feature, which let ChatGPT integrate with third-party services like Expedia or Instacart, but adds the ability to navigate websites dynamically without explicit instructions. OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati emphasized the company is “not rushing it”—the agent currently runs in a tightly monitored environment, with strong content and safety filters, including a red-teaming process to prevent misuse.
What’s interesting is how OpenAI frames this move not as a novelty, but as a productivity upgrade: a quiet, web-savvy coworker that takes repetitive tasks off your plate. It signals a shift in AI—from a chatbot you query to a proactive agent that can follow through. As more of our work gets digitized, attention may become less about output and more about orchestration—knowing what to offload and when.
Takeaways at a Glance:
The new AI agent is available in alpha to select ChatGPT Plus users
Can autonomously operate websites (e.g., book flights, extract data)
Built on earlier "Actions" work but with greater autonomy
Safety controls and real-time oversight are in place
Could expand into handling full workflows in the near future
What We Think About It:
This is a real shift in how we interact with AI. Up to now, most tools—even the impressive ones—have needed us to prompt them, to be the driver. This new general-purpose agent from OpenAI flips the script. Now the AI can do things for you—navigate websites, extract data, click buttons—without you micromanaging it step-by-step.
What You Can Do Right Now:
If you’re already using ChatGPT, start thinking about small, annoying tasks you’d love off your plate—like filling out forms, comparing flights, or copying info from one site to another. These are the kinds of things this AI agent is being built to do.
You can’t try the agent just yet unless you’re in the alpha group, but it’s a good time to notice how much of your time goes into “digital busywork.” Make a list. When this agent becomes widely available, you’ll be ready to hand it off—and free up your day for deeper, more human stuff.
