ChatGPT is becoming platform
At OpenAI’s Dev Day, Sam Altman laid out a vision for ChatGPT as an all-purpose platform—an “operating system for intelligence.” Instead of just a chat interface, OpenAI unveiled custom GPTs, mini-apps that can perform specific tasks like financial analysis, marketing strategy, or code debugging. Developers can now build and monetize these directly inside the ChatGPT ecosystem, much like app creators did on early iPhones. “We want everyone to have their own AI,” Altman said, signaling OpenAI’s intent to decentralize access while keeping users inside one intelligent environment.
WIRED reports that the update also includes faster models, richer memory, and tighter integration with APIs—turning ChatGPT into a workflow hub rather than a simple chatbot. Altman emphasized that this is not just a product upgrade but a platform transformation, positioning ChatGPT as the central interface through which users will interact with both AI and software in general.
