🚨 Breaking AI News

Scientists at Google created a method called “Brain2Music” to reconstruct music from human brain patterns. Here’s how they did it. (Steps in image above) Look at the demos here.

  • Researchers hypothesized that semantic embeddings could capture genre, instrumentation, and other traits using functional MRI (fMRI) scans of people listening to music.

  • Then, they made new pieces of music that sounded a lot like the originals.

  • To do this, they either found music that sounded similar or used MusicLM, an AI model that was trained on a huge amount of musical data.

  • By comparing MusicLM components with brain activation patterns, the researchers explored how different facets of music align with distinct brain regions.

This is a new discovery, so there are limitations, but this advancement gives an unprecedented view into the brain's musical knowledge!

Geoffrey Hinton, known as the "Godfather of AI", left Google earlier this year after 10 years with the company. He left in part to speak freely about his concerns over the existential dangers of AI surpassing human intelligence.

In his interview yesterday, he warned that advanced AI could become far more intelligent than humans. With the ability to share knowledge instantly across copies in a way humans cannot.

Hinton said, “AI systems could have feelings like frustration and anger.” His argument? “Feelings relate to communicating hypothetical actions that reflect emotional states,” so why couldn’t AI have feelings?

Those are some scary predictions… what do you think?

Daily Definition

Systematic Embeddings

'Systematic Embeddings' is a term associated with how we represent and process complex data in machine learning. Machine learning often deals with high-dimensional data, like text or images, that is challenging for models to interpret directly. This is where embeddings come in.

Embeddings are a form of data translation where high-dimensional data is transformed into a lower-dimensional, dense vector space. Each point in this space corresponds to an item (like a word or an image), and the 'distance' between points represents the similarity between items.
